Privacy notice

Last updated: 27 August 2026

This website provides information about the plays, poems, publications and performances of Ella Tan, and about Love’s Reckoning generally. We respect your privacy and aim to collect and use personal data only where necessary, in accordance with applicable data-protection law, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG).

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The operator of this website is Ella Tan, publishing as Love’s Reckoning.

Contact: write@lovesreckoning.com. A postal address is available on request via the contact email above.

2. What information may we collect?

Depending on how you use the website, we may collect: your name and email address if you contact us or subscribe to the newsletter; information you voluntarily provide when submitting an enquiry, feedback, a poem or play, a media request or a publication request; information necessary to process a purchase, booking, subscription or other transaction; and technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information and website usage data where this is necessary for security, functionality or permitted analytics.

We do not ask visitors to submit sensitive personal information unless there is a specific and lawful reason to do so. Please do not submit confidential information about children, family disputes, medical matters, court proceedings or other sensitive matters through a public form unless specifically requested and appropriate safeguards are provided.

3. Why do we use personal data?

We may use personal data to: respond to enquiries and communications; provide information about the plays, poems, publications, performances or related projects; manage subscriptions, purchases and requests; maintain website security and functionality; understand website performance where lawful analytics are used; comply with legal obligations; and protect our legitimate interests, rights and property where permitted by law.

We will not use personal data for purposes that are incompatible with the purpose for which it was collected.

4. Legal bases

Depending on the circumstances, processing may be based on your consent, the performance of a contract or steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests where those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

This website may use strictly necessary cookies to provide requested functionality and maintain security. Where non-essential analytics or similar technologies are used, we provide appropriate information and obtain consent where required.

You will not be treated as having consented merely because you continue browsing the website. Where consent is required, you are given a clear choice and an equally accessible way to withdraw it.

6. Third-party services

The website uses third-party providers for services such as hosting, website analytics, payment processing, email delivery and security. Where such providers process personal data on our behalf, we take appropriate contractual and organisational measures as required by applicable law.

Third-party websites and services have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites that you choose to visit.

7. How long do we keep personal data?

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the reason for processing.

8. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to: request access to personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data; request deletion of your personal data; request restriction of processing; object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests; receive certain personal data in a portable format; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise a right, contact us at write@lovesreckoning.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request.

9. Complaints

If you have concerns about how we process your personal data, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve the issue. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or another competent supervisory authority under applicable data-protection law.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Children’s privacy

This website is not intended to collect personal information from children. Because some of the published work concerns a child and family circumstances, we take particular care not to invite children to disclose personal or sensitive information publicly.

Parents or guardians who believe that a child has provided personal information to us may contact us at write@lovesreckoning.com.

12. Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy notice when the website, services or applicable legal requirements change. The latest version will always be published on this page with its effective date.

13. A note on the creative work

The plays and poems on this site contain fictionalised characters and dramatized material inspired by real-world experiences. The privacy of individuals — particularly children and private individuals — is protected in how excerpts, correspondence and supporting material are published. We do not publish personal information about another person without a lawful basis and, where appropriate, permission.
